6 Reasons You Need A Content Writer

Because writing can be downright draining sometimes, am I right?

Let me paint a scenario for you, and you tell me if this sounds familiar.

You plan to write x,y, and z for your business. Let’s say X is a blog, Y are Instagram captions, and Z is a newsletter.

You sit down at your computer to write everything out. But, you don’t exactly start pounding those keys.

You find yourself refreshing your email box several times, dipping into Youtube for a few hits of daily news stories, and maybe get caught up in a Facebook group drama or two — you get it, you’re distracted.

Or, you get bogged down with calls and clients matters. And since now we are all working from home, we are juggling more in any given hour.

And I’m not going to even go into all the mental blocks we have towards writing — another day, another blog.

When you finally get something written, it’s a rush job because you just needed something.

I see you. I hear you.

This common affliction I like to call ‘I need to hire a content writer syndrome.’

Fortunately, the cure is simple, and your condition has 100% chance of recovery, as per every doctor ever (don’t question it, it’s science.)

All you need is a big ole’ dose of content writer ASAP.

Here are six reasons why you need to hire a doctor of words to handle your content with the care and love it deserves.

#1: You Need To Make The Mundane Sound Inspiring

Let’s face it. You’re never going to wow the pants off of everyone, so you might as well not try.

OK, no, that came out wrong.

You want the pants to come off, and wow!

Nope, let’s try this again.

Everyone. Pants. No. Wow.

Did I get your attention? Good. I’m writing about mundane topics, being mundane — very meta.

Anyways, captivating an audience on a tedious subject takes finesse, a little bit of spunk, and a whole lot of creativity.

Example:

What’s the difference between satin and eggshell paint finish?

or…

Satin or Eggshell? Which One Will Make Hate Your Spouse Less?

Which one would you rather read?

#2: Your Time Needs To Be Prioritized Elsewhere

Yeah. It could be as simple as that.

You need to dedicate your ‘zone of genius’ to areas of your business that will see the most growth.

#3: The Ideas Have Run Dry And You Need A Fresh Perspective

I’ve had many clients come to me and say this exact sentence:

“I love to write, but I don’t know what to write about.”

First, I always ask if they genuinely love to write (because who in their right mind would!?😉), and second, I sympathize.

There’s only so much bandwidth we can work with, in one day, week, and month.

If your not consistently feeding the content machine, it will stop working.

My whole paid existence (who are we kidding, and the non-paid stuff) is devoted to generating ideas. Writing is just one part of the equation.

Consider that every article, book, or blog you read has a very well researched back story.

Content writers do things like…

  • Read (a lot.)
  • Analyze the Competition
  • Social Media Browsing
  • Stay On Top Of Trends
  • Listen to Podcasts
  • Watch Youtube videos

#4: You Have Many Content Balls In The Air and Feel Overwhelmed

You have your blog, Medium, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, lead magnets, white papers, newsletters, and more. Oh, and not to mention that each platform has its own specific audience to nurture.

It would overwhelm the best of us.

Having someone help you sort everything out will significantly improve your stress to tension ratio.

#5: You Need A Seasoned Storyteller To Seduce Your Audience

You and I are not dissimilar. We both want clients continually walking through our virtual doors.

We want to stick in their brains and never leave like a parasite (a good one).

Storytelling allows for that. It shows a range of emotions and gives your audience more of a chance to see themselves in you.

And really at the end of the day, it’s about how your business makes them feel.

#6: Writing Isn’t For Everyone, and You’re Tired Of Doing It

I can’t tell you how many people I’ve met that have spent years, and I mean yeeeaaarrrsss, punishing themselves over content.

My favorite response to them:

“It’s OK not to like writing.”

I’m often met with a sigh of relief because, well, so many of us feel guilty for not liking it (we all have our reasons).

But don’t stick it out because you feel like you have to.

Collaborate with a content or copywriter who will internalize your voice so that it still seems like you wrote it. There is nothing noble about putting out crappy content for the sake of writing it yourself.

Conclusion

There are a myriad of reasons you would hire someone to write for you, and you might not see yours represented here today — but, keep in mind, writing can suck on so many levels, so six are enough for now.
